The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to announce funding support for the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) Construction Careers Regina program. SIIT will receive $967,000 for programming and wages.The program provides First Nations and Métis people with an opportunity to obtain the skills, certifications and experience needed to gain employment in the construction and industrial sectors. More than 600 participants will access the program in Regina this year.
“Skills training is part of our government’s budget commitment to invest in people,” Minister Responsible for Immigration, Jobs, Skills and Training Jeremy Harrison said. “Through our partnership, SIIT provides training and career development to First Nations learners and others in order to meet employer demand and establish rewarding careers that will help keep Saskatchewan strong.”
SIIT runs skills training and basic education programs throughout the province, including Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Meadow Lake, North Battleford, Yorkton, Creighton and La Ronge.
“For 18 years, SIIT’s eight career centres have been enhancing employability and employment opportunities for Indigenous learners in order to ensure the availability of skilled workers to the province’s labour market,” Construction Careers Regina Project Manager Mark Gettle said. “We are grateful to the Government of Saskatchewan for their continued support as we assist our learners to gain the skills needed to secure employment and a brighter future for their families and communities.”
Construction Careers Regina has been providing skill development and employment readiness programs to job seekers since 1998.
