$3 Million Grade Raise Planned for Highway 3

Released on August 25, 2016

Weekly Provincial Highway Construction Update

A $3 million grade raise project on Highway 3 west of Shellbrook will help reduce the risk of the road flooding for motorists travelling in the area.  Road construction is targeted to begin next week and will see a 1.2 km stretch of this provincial highway raised by nearly one metre.  Building this section of road higher than the adjacent slough will also reduce maintenance costs.  Work is expected to be finished in early summer 2017.

“Whether it’s forest fires or flooding, our government is committed to restoring services for people as quickly as possible and taking steps to help reduce the risks from these types of events to keep our transportation system moving and safe,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said.

Other grade raise projects this year include one on Highway 5, which began in June, and another on Highway 20, targeted to begin later this construction season.  Both are in the Humboldt area.

New projects scheduled or underway include: culvert installations on Highway 3 near Melfort and Highway 35 near Tisdale; seal coating on Highway 5 west of Watson, Highway 9 near Whitewood and Carlyle, along with Highway 35 between Lipton and Elfros; paving on Highways 1 and 36; and a culvert installation on Highway 155 north of Green Lake.
