Make Safety a Habit - NAOSH Week Proclaimed

Released on May 1, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 3 to 9, 2015, as North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week.  This year’s theme is Make Safety a Habit.

NAOSH week, which is observed throughout North America, promotes health and safety in the workplace and at home.

“This week is a reminder that we are all responsible for safe and healthy workplaces,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said.  “I encourage all employers and employees to make safety a top priority not just this week but throughout the year.”

Saskatchewan has been chosen to host the National Launch for the 2015 NAOSH Week.  The launch will take place in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park on Monday, May 4.  Regina will host a luncheon on Tuesday, May 5, at the Conexus Arts Centre.  Both events will feature a keynote address from Greg Johnson, one of North America’s top professional storm-chasers and severe weather experts.

Also known as the Tornado Hunter, Johnson has over ten years of experience and enjoys chasing classic prairie thunder and lightning storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and blizzards.  NAOSH will be hosting the Amazing Safety Quest competition during the Saskatoon launch.  The competition includes activities designed to engage, encourage, and educate young Saskatchewan workers about the importance of workplace health and safety both at work and at home.

Saskatchewan NAOSH week activities are promoted and coordinated by the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, the Workers’ Compensation Board, the Government of Canada, the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering,  Threads of Life, Saskatchewan Safety Associations, and the Saskatchewan Safety Council.
