Saskatchewan Pushing for Canada Free Trade Zone

Saskatchewan Minister responsible for Trade, Jeremy Harrison, was pleased with the outcome of discussions among federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for internal trade in Toronto today on the negotiations to renew and modernize the Agreement on Internal Trade.

“Ministers reaffirmed their interest in achieving a new, ambitious and more comprehensive agreement that will get rid of remaining barriers to trade inside the Canadian market,” Harrison said. “I am confident that when negotiations are concluded early next year, that we will have an agreement on a Canada Free Trade Zone that will be second to none.

“Saskatchewan continues to take a leadership role in the pursuit of a Canadian market that is open, transparent, free from barriers, and allows businesses to compete freely and fairly across the country.”

Ministers also agreed to meet frequently over the coming months to ensure momentum is maintained and to provide the necessary direction to negotiators in order to meet Canada's Premiers' request that the negotiations wrap up by March 2016.
