Released on October 25, 2013
Bonkowski Enterprises Inc. of Wapella pleaded guilty to two charges under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996 and was fined $1,040 in Yorkton Provincial Court on October 21, 2013.
The company pleaded guilty to:
- contravening section 116(2)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that workers used a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more) and fined $600 with a $240 surcharge;
- contravening section 91(1) of the regulations (failure to provide and/or require workers to use appropriate protective headwear) and fined $150 with a $50 surcharge.
The charges stemmed from an inspection by an Occupational Health and Safety Officer on August 9, 2011, at a worksite in Yorkton. Two other charges were stayed.
Occupational Health and Safety conducts approximately 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced. Occupational Health and Safety has a zero tolerance approach to violations of fall protection.
