WORK SET TO BEGIN ON A $1.4 MILLION OFF-RAMP AT BALGONIE ON HIGHWAY 1

Released on September 5, 2012

The Weekly Construction Update

Construction of a $1.4 million off-ramp on Highway 1 at Balgonie is scheduled to begin this week. Once construction begins at the junction of Highways 1 and 46, traffic may be reduced to one lane in the area for motorists travelling westbound on Highway 1.

"The new off-ramp is designed to improve safety for motorists by making it easier to get on and off the busy Trans-Canada Highway," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. "This project is another example of how we're addressing the challenges of a province that continues to grow."

Motorists may notice simultaneous work as a $2.5-million project involving construction of an exit ramp (eastbound on Highway 1 to southbound on Highway 48) and an entrance ramp (northbound on Highway 48 to eastbound on Highway 1) is currently nearing completion.

Several new highway construction projects expected to get underway this week include about 20 kilometres (km) of seal coating on Highway 35 near Armley, micro surfacing on Highway 7 near Kindersley and 4 near Elrose, improvements on the Wakaw Lake Access road and crack filling on Highway 55 east of Nipawin.

Additional travel information about emergency road closures, the status of ferries and barges along with other road activities can also be found on the Highway Hotline at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions. It's also available by calling 306-787-7623 in Regina, 306-933-8333 in Saskatoon, the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD, toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623 and via the Highway Hotline mobile website at http://hotline.gov.sk.ca/sk/map/mobile/.
