MOTORISTS GEARING UP FOR BUSY CANADA DAY LONG WEEKEND

Released on June 27, 2012

Drivers May Face Minor Delays

With the Canada Day long weekend approaching, the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is reminding drivers to be on the lookout for road crews wearing orange vests as work continues on dozens of highway projects throughout Saskatchewan.

"When planning your July long weekend road trip, check out the highway hotline before you go," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. "The ministry is busy with construction upgrades across the province, and asks all drivers to be safe when travelling this long weekend."

Motorists are reminded to be alert when approaching construction zones and slow to 60 km/hr when passing workers and equipment.

New work scheduled this week including surfacing on about 14 km of Highway 6 south of Choiceland. There's also patch work on Highway 7 near Delisle, Highway 11 north and south of Saskatoon and Highway 41 near Wakaw, repairs planned for the overpass deck over CN tracks on Highway 10 near Balcarres and minor repairs set for several bridges on Highway 55 near Red Earth.

The weekly construction update is posted to the Highway Hotline Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SaskatchewanHighwayHotline and Tweeted @SKGovHwyHotline. Pictures of various construction projects can be found in a photo gallery on the ministry's website at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/constructionseason2012.

Additional travel information about emergency road closures due to severe weather and other events, the status of ferries and barges, along with other road activities, can also be found on the Highway Hotline at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions. It's also available by calling 306-787-7623 in Regina, 306-933-8333 in Saskatoon, the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD, toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623 and via the Highway Hotline mobile website at www.hotline.gov.sk.ca/sk/map/mobile.
