Mother Nature is presenting some real challenges for highway construction and maintenance crews in the province. But despite wet soggy weather, there are more than half a dozen new highway construction projects scheduled to begin this week.
"Although crews have been facing some adversity in the form of inclement weather, it's still early in the construction season and with a return to drier weather, there's time to catch up," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. "The length of the construction season depends on the weather and typically it runs well into the month of October and even November if we have a mild fall."
Additional new work scheduled to get underway this week includes installation of a culvert under Highway 1 near Wapella, paving along Highway 1 near Indian Head, patching on Highway 16 near North Battleford and grading near St. Louis on Highways 2 and 25.
"Saskatchewan's growth agenda includes having the right infrastructure in place and we're taking steps through investments in our highways to make that happen," McMorris said.
