Once again motorists will be able to drive on newly rebuilt Highway 310, from Foam Lake to the Junction of Highway 5.
Work is nearing completion after substantial damage from the flooding of Fishing Lake in 2007. A total of 30 km of Highway 310 was upgraded from North of Foam Lake to the Junction of Highway 5 near Kuroki at a cost of $25.3 million. In addition, a new bridge was built to accommodate drainage out of Fishing Lake at a cost of $700,000.
"We've done more than just restore Highway 310, we've rebuilt it," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. "We've upgraded 310 from a thin membrane surface, to a modern heavy-haul highway, capable of handling increased truck traffic."
When flooding occurred in 2007, Highway 310 was a thin membrane surface highway (TMS). As a result Highway 310 was heavily damaged by the truck haul that provided sand bags and materials for berm construction.
"Highway 310 now supports farming, livestock and manufacturing in the area," Kevlington-Wadena MLA June Draude said. "Our government is pleased to deliver a Highway not only capable of handling day-to-day traffic, but also the needs of our growing province."
"The completion of the project will open up an economic lifeline into our community from Fishing Lake and area and benefit the local communities and all users of the highway," Foam Lake Mayor Bob Johnson said. "We look forward to tomorrow's community celebration to help mark the completion of the project."
Community celebrations occurring on Friday, July 27 kick off with a pancake breakfast from 7-9 a.m. at the Foam Lake Golf and Country Club, followed by an official opening and ribbon cutting on Highway 310 at 9:30 a.m. at "Wallen's Corner" approximately 16 km north of Foam Lake. This will be followed by an "In Motion" walk or bike relay to Foam Lake, and a wide variety of events throughout the day and evening including sidewalk sales, kids' entertainment, a barbeque lunch, live music, a street dance and fireworks.
