HIGHWAY 5 IMPROVEMENTS BENEFIT MOTORISTS

Released on August 29, 2012

The Weekly Construction Update

A $3.1 million dollar paving project on Highway 5 will result in a smoother and safer ride for motorists travelling between Quill Lake and Watson. Final cleanup work on the 15 km project is expected to conclude shortly.

"To ensure we're addressing the challenges of growth our government has embarked on an ambitious agenda of improvements in order to support economic development," Melfort MLA Kevin Philips said on behalf of Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris. "The resurfacing of Highway 5 between Quill Lake and Watson is another example of how Saskatchewan people are benefitting from the province's unprecedented growth."

Several new highway construction projects expected to get underway this week include paving on Highway 1 east near Moosomin, Whitewood and Broadview, seal coating on Highway 3 near Kinistino, patching near Unity, grading and paving on Highway 55 near Peerless, and replacement of an existing culvert under Highway 915 near Stanley Mission.

Additional travel information about emergency road closures, the status of ferries and barges along with other road activities can also be found on the Highway Hotline at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions. It's also available by calling 306-787-7623 in Regina, 306-933-8333 in Saskatoon, the SaskTel cellular network at *ROAD, toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623 and via the Highway Hotline mobile website at http://hotline.gov.sk.ca/sk/map/mobile/.
