ORANGE IS THE COLOUR, SAFETY IS THE GAME

Released on July 9, 2009

The Weekly Provincial Construction Update

What's nearly 300-km long and orange in colour? That's right, the province's ongoing Orange Zones, which provide an important safety message motorists should not forget.

"With the tremendous amount of highway work taking place this summer, motorists are likely to come across an Orange Zone where everyone is working hard to improve our transportation system," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter said.

"Motorists should watch for and obey all construction signs while travelling and remember that drivers who exceed 60 km/h when passing a highway worker in the Orange Zone face a base fine of $140."

Highway work that has recently started includes construction on Highway 45 west of Outlook, Highway 310 near Balcarres and Highway 903 northwest of Cole Bay. For more details and a list of other ongoing projects, please see the attached backgrounder.

Construction work is subject to weather conditions and contractor progress. Motorists can get other important travel information on the Summer Road Conditions and Road Conditions Map sections of the Highway Hotline online at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions/.

Highway Hotline information via telephone is as follows: Regina and area at 306-787-7623; Saskatoon and area at 306-933-8333; on the SaskTel Cellular Network at *ROAD; and now throughout Canada at 1-888-335-7623.
