As the road construction season hits the half-way point, Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter reminds motorists to continue to watch out for activity on Saskatchewan highways.
"You have to remember that we have crews and equipment working from early May right up until November, so it's important to plan accordingly and leave a little extra time for construction activity," Reiter said. "We have a significant amount of road work going on thanks to another record budget, so Orange Zones are always inevitable. It's important to slow to 60 km/h when passing these construction zones, otherwise you could face a base fine of $140."
Work that has recently started includes $15 million worth of surfacing on Highway 13 from Assiniboia west through Lafleche and on to Woodrow. More details and a complete list of other ongoing projects throughout the province are available in the attached backgrounder.
Construction work is subject to weather conditions and contractor progress. Motorists can get other important travel information on the Summer Road Conditions and Road Conditions Map sections of the Highway Hotline online at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/road-conditions/.
