2000 QUEEN'S COUNSEL APPOINTMENTS

Thirteen Saskatchewan lawyers were honoured with Queen's Counsel (QC)

appointments today.



"I congratulate each of these individuals on being recognized for their

contribution to the practice of law," Acting Justice Minister John Nilson

said. "This designation reflects the respect these members of the bar have

with their colleagues, the courts, the legal profession and the community."



Queen's Counsel in an honourary designation. Appointees must live in

Saskatchewan and have practised law at least 10 years in the superior courts of

any province or territory of Canada or the United Kingdom and Ireland.



Individuals receiving the Queen's Counsel (QC) designation have been

recommended by a selection committee compromised of the Saskatchewan Minister

of Justice, the Chief Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench for Saskatchewan or

the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal (on an alternating basis), and the

past presidents of the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Bar Association and

the Law Society of Saskatchewan.



The 2000 appointments are:



Susan Amrud is the Director of Legislative Services Branch of the Saskatchewan

Department of Justice in Regina. She was admitted to the Bar in 1981.



Douglas Andrews is a lawyer with the firm of Huck Andrews Butler and Birchard

in Regina and is a Bencher of the Law Society. He was admitted to the Bar in

1976.



Leonard Andrychuk is a lawyer with the firm of MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman in

Regina. He was admitted to the Bar in 1981.



Douglas Britton is a Crown Prosecutor with Saskatchewan Justice in Regina. He

was admitted to the Bar in 1971.



John Field is a Crown Prosecutor with Saskatchewan Justice in Prince Albert.

He was admitted to the bar in Saskatchewan in 1978.



Jeffrey Grubb is a lawyer with the firm of Balfour Moss in Regina, and

currently the President of the Canadian Bar Association, Saskatchewan Branch.

He was admitted to the Bar in 1988.



Holly Ann Knott is a lawyer with the firm of Knott Jackson den Hollander in

Saskatoon. She was admitted to the Bar in Saskatchewan in 1975.



John McIntosh is a lawyer with the firm of McIntosh and Hale in Swift Current.

He is currently a bencher of the Law Society. He was admitted to the Bar in

Saskatchewan in 1974.



John Meldrum is Vice President Corporate Counsel and Regulatory Affairs for

Saskatchewan Telecommunications Corporation. He was admitted to the Bar in

Saskatchewan in 1978.



Bob Pelton is a lawyer with the firm of Pedersen Norman McLeod and Todd in

Regina. He was admitted to the Bar in Saskatchewan in 1973.



Martel Popescul is a lawyer with the firm of Sanderson Balicki Popescul and

Forsyth in Prince Albert. He is the incoming president of the Law Society of

Saskatchewan. He was admitted to the Bar in Saskatchewan in 1980.



Brian Scherman is a lawyer in the firm Balfour Moss in Saskatoon. He was

admitted to the Bar in Saskatchewan in 1973.



Gregory Walen is a lawyer in the firm Hynatyshyn Singer Thorstad in Saskatoon.

He was admitted to the Bar in Saskatchewan in 1981.
