Rental Housing in Rural and Northern Communities

The Affordable Housing Program offers rental housing to individuals and families in select rural and northern Saskatchewan communities. The rent for these units is a fixed amount set by Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

The Affordable Housing Program is administered by local housing authorities on behalf of Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

1. Benefits

The Affordable Housing Program provides:

  • rental housing options in small communities; and
  • rental housing that might be more suitable than what is available in the community for those with accessibility needs.

2. Eligibility

Individuals and families are eligible for the Affordable Housing Program if they:

  • are legally allowed to be in Canada; and
  • are not temporary visitors to Canada or foreign students.

Individuals in the Affordable Housing Program must be able to live independently. This independence may include support from family, the community, or other agencies.

Tenants are required to provide a security deposit.

3. How to apply

To apply, complete the Housing Application and submit it to your local housing authority.

On January 22, 2015, Saskatchewan Housing Corporation’s Affordable Housing Program transitioned to the Social Housing Program in Saskatchewan’s larger centres.
