First Nations and Metis Sponsorships

Intake for funding applications for the 2024-25 fiscal year opens on April 1, 2024.
The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to advancing reconciliation in partnership with First Nation and Métis organizations and Saskatchewan citizens.
The Ministry of Government Relations’ First Nations and Métis Relations Unit provides sponsorship funding to qualifying First Nation and Métis community organizations or non-profit organizations to assist with public events that promote reconciliation and cultural understanding and benefit Indigenous people.
First Nations and Métis Sponsorships support public events that promote reconciliation and cultural understanding and benefit Indigenous people in one of the following categories:
- Education;
- Employment;
- Professional development;
- Cultural celebrations; and/or
- Honouring veterans and Elders.
1. Eligible Recipients
You can apply for this grant if you are an authorized representative(s) of a Saskatchewan-based organization and if your event falls into one of the following categories:
- Education;
- Employment;
- Professional development;
- Cultural celebrations; and/or
- Honouring Veterans and Elders.
As well, your group must be either:
- An Indigenous organization (First Nation and Métis community organization); or
- A non-profit group.
- Non-profits must provide an incorporation number to confirm "active" status with the Information Services Corporation.
2. Conditions of Funding
Typical sponsorship funding examples are $500 for a community event; $1,500 for a cultural celebration, such as a pow wow; and $3,000 for a province-wide conference.
The ministry may publish recipients, events, projects and grant amounts.
3. What You Need to Know Before You Start
Interested partner groups can discuss their proposals before submitting their application by emailing fnmr@gov.sk.ca or calling 306-798-0183.
- Read the Application Fact Sheet to help you prepare your funding application.
- Ensure your application is accurate and complete before submitting it.
- Complete and attach a project budget. If you have questions about preparing a budget, please contact fnmr@gov.sk.ca.
- Attach signed letters of support from your partner(s), if applicable.
Missing or incomplete information will slow the application processing and may result in its rejection.

Contact the First Nations and Métis Relations Unit if you require an application package mailed or faxed to you.
5. Next Steps
The Government of Saskatchewan will acknowledge receipt of your application and/or project proposal within 10 business days.
Upon being approved for funding, recipients must:
- Sign a Letter of Offer that details the conditions under which the funding is to be used; and
- Agree to reporting requirements, which includes completing a Reporting Form to describe your project's outcomes.
Reporting requirements must be submitted before being considered for future sponsorship or community partnership funding.
