Saskatchewan led Western Canada and ranked second among provinces in year-over-year wholesale trade growth according to Statistics Canada.Wholesale trade was up 17.3 per cent (seasonally adjusted) in March 2019 when compared to last March, the second highest percentage increase among the provinces. Nationally, trade increased by 2.8 per cent.
“Saskatchewan’s sustained growth in wholesale trade shows our economy is on the right track despite the external headwinds that it is facing,” Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said. “The rise in year-over-year increases are substantial and well above the national average.”
Total wholesale trade for March was $2.45 billion.
Major gains were reported for machinery, equipment and supplies, up 11.5 per cent and miscellaneous merchant wholesale, up 35.5 per cent.
