Today, Social Services Minister Paul Merriman joined community members, dignitaries and group home residents in Saskatoon to celebrate the grand opening of a new LutherCare Communities group home.The group home will provide residential supports for four former residents of Valley View Centre, as well as day programming. The Government of Saskatchewan is providing more than $500,000 annually for the residential and day programming.
“The ministry appreciates the support that LutherCare Communities provides to people with intellectual disabilities,” Merriman said. “Today we join them in giving four people a warm Saskatoon welcome to their new home.”
LutherCare Communities provides a wide range of health services, senior’s housing and community services to more than 1,200 residents and clients located across the province, including services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. They currently operate ten group homes, which includes two new homes for former residents of Valley View Centre, 16 day program spaces, and a supported independent living program.
“As CEO of LutherCare Communities, I would like to thank the Ministry of Social Services, in particular Community Living Service Delivery, who for the past 30 years have supported the work of LutherCare Communities,” LutherCare Communities Chief Executive Officer Vivienne Hauck said. “It is a fantastic partnership. This would not be possible without the exceptional work by the staff and leadership, providing excellence in care, shelter and support on a daily basis.”
This new group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities. Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
