Today, Social Services Minister Paul Merriman joined community members, dignitaries and group home residents in Regina to celebrate the grand opening of a new replacement group home for Regina Residential Resource Centre (RRRC).The group home provides residential supports for four people. The Government of Saskatchewan provided funding of $23,338 for a mortgage to replace the old group home, bringing the total annual funding to $1.84 million for 2018-19.
“Regina Residential Resource Centre provides spaces for people with intellectual disabilities to participate, live safely and comfortably in the community,” Merriman said. “Our government is committed to working with our partners, families and people with disabilities to create a province where everyone can participate to the greatest extent possible.”
Since 1974, RRRC has been providing supports for people with intellectual disabilities. The Ministry of Social Services has contracts with RRRC to provide an eight space respite home, two group homes that support eight people, a group living home supporting four people, a day program for two people, a supported independent living program and person-centred enhanced supports for two people.
“In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Services, RRRC focuses on providing quality, self-directed services and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families in a professional and respectful manner,” Regina Residential Resource Centre Chairperson John Knight said.
This replacement group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities. Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
