The Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan, along with the City of Regina and Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. (Silver Sage), officially opened a new six-unit rental housing project for families with complex needs.
Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, on behalf of Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), along with Member of the Legislative Assembly for Regina Walsh Acres Warren Steinley on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) Paul Merriman, City of Regina Mayor Michael Fougere, and Silver Sage Board Chair Edmund Bellegarde made the announcement today.The project, which will include support services and programs provided by human services agencies, will be owned by Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. (Silver Sage). The homes, which consist of six three-bedroom duplexes, will be located on two lots in close proximity, 1346 Forget Street and 5029 7th Avenue.
“These investments in affordable housing will support six Regina families who need it most,” Goodale said. “When we help families get the housing they need, we are doing more than putting a roof over their heads, we are helping build a foundation for their success. This project is part of the new National Housing Strategy, which will cut chronic homelessness in half over a decade.”
“Our government, together with our partners, is pleased to help Silver Sage complete this vital project,” Steinley said. “Six families now have a safe, affordable home, with the supports they require, that will enable them to move forward with their lives and establish themselves in this community. We will always stand with the people of Saskatchewan and stand firm on issues that matter, including housing.”
“Regina’s housing incentives are aimed at addressing the areas of greatest need in our community,” Fougere said. “Affordable homes, especially those paired with support services, can change the lives of our most vulnerable residents. City Council is proud to partner with agencies like Silver Sage Holdings that understand that need and work very hard to help their clients thrive.”
“The Family Housing Project addresses a real need in our community to provide a safe place for families in transition,” Bellegarde said. “We have families who are in the process of re-establishing themselves in the community and simply need a safe, affordable place to live. We see this partnership as a one of many paths to healing, and a way to honour that relationship with our future generations.”

- This project will provide permanent housing for families with complex needs. The homes will be located on two lots in close proximity, 1346 Forget Street and 5029 - 7th Avenue. The project consists of the construction of 6 three-bedroom duplexes, each averaging 1,198 square feet.
- The Government of Canada, through CMHC, along with the Government of Saskatchewan, through SHC, jointly contributed $900,100 toward the construction of the six units under the Canada-Saskatchewan Social Infrastructure Fund Allocation Increase.
- An additional $150,000 in funding was provided by the City of Regina.
- Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. contributed approximately $1 million in the form of cash/land equity and mortgage financing.
- The Government of Canada is currently rolling out its National Housing Strategy, an ambitious 10-year, $40 billion plan that will create 100,000 new housing units and lift 530,000 families out of housing need, as well as repair and renew more than 300,000 housing units and reduce chronic homelessness by 50 per cent.
- This investment supports Saskatchewan’s Housing Strategy, Poverty Reduction Strategy and Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan goal of ensuring Saskatchewan people have affordable, safe, secure and stable housing.
