Today, Social Services Minister Paul Merriman joined community members and dignitaries in Saskatoon to celebrate the grand opening of a new Christian Horizons home.The home will provide residential supports for up to three people with emerging needs. The Government of Saskatchewan provided $418,544 in annual funding for the home, as well as $78,916 annually for day programming for the people living there.
“I am proud of the government’s partnership with Christian Horizons,” Merriman said. “Community-based organizations play a valuable role in supporting people with intellectual disabilities to be included in communities across our province.”
Christian Horizons receives more than $10 million in annual funding from the Ministry of Social Services to provide supports for people with disabilities. In addition to operating 16 group homes across the province, they provide day options and person-directed supports.
“Christian Horizons is looking to create environments where people experiencing disabilities can direct their lives to achieve their goals,” Christian Horizons Executive Director Ann Gyurmanczi said. “We are thrilled to be working with the provincial government and community partners to have communities where everybody belongs.”This new group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities. Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
