Rural and Remote Health Minister Greg Ottenbreit and Cypress Hills MLA Doug Steele joined community members, staff and clients today to celebrate the opening of the Leader and District Integrated Healthcare Facility. The event also marked renovations for the Western Senior Citizens Home.“The completion of this project shows our government’s commitment to improving the quality of health care services for the residents of rural Saskatchewan, including those of Leader and surrounding communities,” Ottenbreit said. “I thank the Saskatchewan Health Authority, our municipal partners, those that worked on the facility, and the people of Leader and surrounding communities for making this vision a reality.”
“This newly completed integrated health care facility, along with the renovations to the Western Senior Citizens Home, show that our government remains committed to the residents of southwest Saskatchewan,” Steele said. “Thank you to the local community and everyone who had a hand in helping complete this project.”
The new facility brings together acute care, emergency medical services, community health services and primary health care into one location, with six inpatient beds and 10 exam rooms. A connecting corridor links the new facility to the 30 bed long-term care facility.
“Partnerships are key to a strong integrated health care system,” Saskatchewan Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Scott Livingstone said. “The community partners in Leader and the surrounding area worked together with our health system to come up with a new model of care that best suits the needs of the area. Staff, physicians, patients and family representatives had input into the facility’s design. Today we are opening a state of the art facility that will serve the people of this area for years to come.”
“This new facility will provide safe, timely, patient- and family-centred care in our community for many years to come,” Leader and District Trust Advisory Committee Chairperson Tim Geiger said. “I’m relieved, proud and ready to celebrate the grand opening of this facility. Thank you to all those individuals and organizations involved in planning, fundraising, donating and helping in any way to make this dream of ours come true.”
All inpatient rooms in the new facility are private, with ceiling track lifts for more comfortable patient transfers and less risk of staff injury. The close proximity of different services within one location saves times and improves communication about patient care. In addition to improved safety measures, the facility has upgraded technology, equipment and furnishings.
The provincial government provided $9.6 million for the $12.1 million capital project. Local funding covered the remainder of the cost.
