Today, Premier Scott Moe is welcoming Ontario Premier Doug Ford to Saskatchewan. The two Premiers will meet in Saskatoon to discuss shared provincial interests including fighting the carbon tax, economic competitiveness, and the importance of the inter-provincial trading relationship between Saskatchewan and Ontario.
“Saskatchewan and Ontario are committed to growing the Canadian economy and advocating for fairness and competitiveness for our industries and businesses,” Moe said. “I am pleased to welcome Premier Ford to Saskatchewan to discuss our shared priorities, including our fight against the federal carbon tax, a tax that will be detrimental to the businesses and industries of our provinces.”
“One of our first actions as a government was to scrap Ontario’s cap-and-trade carbon tax, and to join Saskatchewan in challenging the federal carbon tax in court,” Ford said. “I look forward to building a strong and united front with leaders like Premier Moe who share Ontario’s commitment to protecting our economy, protecting jobs and protecting the people from this costly and regressive tax.”
Premiers Moe and Ford will also hold a business roundtable with a number of Saskatchewan-based businesses and organizations from the mining, agriculture, transportation and construction industries to discuss how to enhance competitiveness for Canadian businesses nationally, and internationally.
Saskatchewan’s interprovincial trade relationship with Ontario represents more than $12 billion of goods and services flowing between our provinces on an annual basis, with annual exports totalling an approximate $5.4 billion and annual imports totalling an approximate $6.7 billion.
