Residents of Cabri and the surrounding area now have improved access to quality, everyday health services, provided by a team of health professionals. A full-time nurse practitioner and visiting physician have joined the primary health care team at the recently upgraded Cabri Medical Clinic.Rural and Remote Health Minister Greg Ottenbreit and Cypress Hills MLA Doug Steele joined officials, clinic staff and residents today for a grand opening celebration.
“Our government is pleased to provide close to $145,000 in new annual funding to support this health care model that ensures residents have easy, reliable access to a team of health professionals in one location,” Ottenbreit said. “I congratulate the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the Town of Cabri and the nearby municipalities on their forward thinking approach that will benefit residents into the future.”
The primary health care team-based model was identified as the best option for Cabri and area, following the retirement of the sole community physician in 2017.
“The re-opening of the Cabri Medical Clinic as a primary health care site is in alignment with the provincial direction for primary health care expansion,” Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) CEO Scott Livingstone said. “There are significant benefits for patients in having their health care needs looked after in a primary health care setting where health care providers are co-located. I congratulate the community of Cabri and the surrounding area for having a strong vision several years ago to construct a medical clinic adaptable to a new way of providing health care in their community when their physician retired. The municipal councils in the area worked collaboratively with the SHA to come up with the best option for the future health care needs of their community and, as a result of this great working relationship, we are able to celebrate today.”
“We are thankful to the Ministry of Health for their support and for their commitment to health care in our area,” Cabri Mayor David Gossard said. “We feel the Primary Health Care Model is a great fit for Cabri and the surrounding areas and look forward to continuing to work together in the future.”
In addition to the full-time nurse practitioner and visiting physician available one day per week, residents can see pharmacists, dietitians, health educators and public health staff at the Cabri Medical Clinic. The team provides a range of health care services including treating common illnesses, writing prescriptions and ordering x-rays and lab tests. The team also facilitates referrals to specialists, navigation through the health system and hospital care. Team members co-ordinate care through a secure electronic medical records system, which was introduced as part of the new primary health care model.
The Cabri Medical Clinic is open Monday to Friday, from 8 am to noon and 12:30 pm to 4 pm. For more details on services and to book an appointment residents can call 306-587-2286.
Long-term care services will continue to be provided at the Prairie Health Care Centre in Cabri.
