The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to recognize International Education Week from November 12-16, 2018. International Education Week is celebrated in more than 100 countries and raises awareness and understanding of international education and the benefits it provides.“International education is an important driver for Saskatchewan’s future economic growth,” Advanced Education Minister Tina Beaudry-Mellor said. “International students contribute more than $150 million each year to Saskatchewan’s economy. International education provides students the global competencies which will benefit them when entering a diverse labour market.”
The Saskatchewan Plan for Growth identified international education as a cornerstone for the province’s immigration strategy. The Government of Saskatchewan is on target for meeting the goals set out in the Saskatchewan Post-Secondary International Education Strategy.
These include:
- increasing the number of international students in Saskatchewan;
- increasing the number of Saskatchewan students studying abroad; and
- increasing the number and value of international research partnerships.
Since 2012, there are 41 per cent more Saskatchewan students studying abroad. International study increases the awareness of Saskatchewan in other countries. Saskatchewan’s universities have also published nearly 1,500 internationally co-authored research papers and received about $30.7 million to conduct international research.
