Saskatchewan has officially proclaimed March 18-24 as Social Work Week. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Bringing Change to Life.”
“Every day, across our province, social workers support individuals, families and communities to seek and experience positive change,” Social Services Minister Paul Merriman said. “Social Work Week is our chance to take the time to appreciate what social workers do for the people of Saskatchewan, and also to recognize the value of social work as a profession.”
The Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers governs the profession of social work in the province. The member-based organization was first established in October 1962, and has grown from an active membership of 83 to more than 1,800 registered members.
“Social work is a diverse profession serving diverse populations, and looks to address both individual challenges and broader social issues such as poverty and inequality,” Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers President Ryan Labatt said. “This year’s theme, ‘Bringing Change to Life,’ reflects the work of social workers in promoting and supporting change, not only with individuals and families, but also within communities and society.”
Social Work Week activities are planned in a number of communities across Saskatchewan. For more information on Social Work Week, including details on how to register for any of the events, please visit the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers’ website at www.sasw.ca.
