Foster parents in Saskatchewan were celebrated at a special gala on Saturday evening in Saskatoon.“Every day, foster parents across Saskatchewan make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people,” Social Services Minister Paul Merriman said. “I am so pleased that this evening gives us the opportunity to celebrate our foster families, and thank them for opening their hearts and homes, and providing a safe and caring environment for children in need.”
The gala honours foster parents who have dedicated 20 years of service, and those who are retiring with 20 or more years of service. The event is being hosted by the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association and the Ministry of Social Services.
“We are extremely proud of our foster parents in this province,” Saskatchewan Foster Families Association Executive Director Deb Davies said. “Our long-serving families have made a positive difference in the lives of so many young people, and their efforts demonstrate a level of commitment and dedication that is extraordinary.”
The Saskatchewan Foster Families Association is a non-profit, community-based organization created to support foster parents as caregivers through education and advocacy. They work with foster parents to create healthy homes, positive environments and brighter futures for children and youth in care across the province.
