Social Services Minister Paul Merriman joined community members, dignitaries and staff from Farm in the Dell to break ground on the site of a new group home in Aberdeen.“This is the start of a new beginning for the seven people who will soon be moving into this home,” Merriman said. “Our government is proud to partner with community-based organizations, like Farm in the Dell, that do remarkable and innovative work supporting people with disabilities.”
Farm in the Dell is a community-based organization supporting people with disabilities in a rural farm-like setting through residential and vocational opportunities. It currently operates one group home providing 10 residential spaces and a day program for 10 people. This sod turning event will celebrate the development of a five-space group home, a two-space supervised independent living program and an expansion to the day program space.
“We are excited to provide this service to the community and look forward to working with the ministry on this project,” Farm in the Dell Co-Executive Directors Krista Neufeld and Lynette Zacharias said.
The Government of Saskatchewan is providing more than $525,000 in annual funding to this initiative, bringing annual funding for Farm in the Dell to more than $1.4 million.
This group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities.
