Investment of $1.5 Million for South West Provincial Parks

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing more than $1.5 million in facility and infrastructure improvements for parks in the province’s South West in 2018-19.

 “The provincial parks in the South West region continue to be popular travel destinations for families,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said.  “Investing in improvements will help us increase safety and reliability of our facilities and services, and contribute to a positive experience for our visitors and their families.”

Upgrades scheduled for completion prior to the 2019 camping season in the South West include:
  • Boat launch improvements at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park;
  • Campground electrical expansion at Shady Pine campground in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park;
  • Completion of campground electrical service improvements in Douglas Provincial Park and Danielson Provincial Park;
  • Completion of interpretive displays in the new visitor reception centre in Douglas Provincial Park;
  • New digital messaging sign at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park; and
  • Sewage lagoon upgrades at Douglas Provincial Park.
The $1.5 million is in addition to more than $12 million invested in South West parks over the past five years for improvements including:
  • New service centres;
  • Additional full service campsites;
  • Major road upgrades;
  • New visitor reception centre; and
  • Electrical campground expansions and upgrades.
A total investment of more than $11 million for planned improvements throughout the provincial park system in 2018-19 will increase total investment in parks to nearly $110 million since 2008.  Saskatchewan’s provincial parks continue to be an important destination, attracting visitors and bringing economic benefits to the entire province.
