Heads of diplomatic mission and senior representatives from 20 countries are travelling to Saskatchewan October 24-26, as the province looks to expand its vital export trade relationships as part of the Mission to Saskatchewan.Delegates represent countries from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
“Trade drives our economy, and the combined value of the province’s exports to the 20 countries participating in this mission was more than $15 billion in 2016,” Premier Brad Wall said. “This opportunity allows provincial leaders and businesses to engage with diplomats representing key markets that support our trade, investment, innovation and education interests.”
The theme of the Mission to Saskatchewan is Food, Fuel and Fertilizer: Saskatchewan has what the world needs. The event will showcase the province’s leadership in agriculture, energy, mineral resources, technology and innovation. Stakeholders from private industry, the provincial government and post-secondary institutions will participate in the program.
Guests will also visit Government House, as well as having the option to tour Brandt Industries Ltd., CanMar Grain Products Ltd., SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Integrated Carbon Capture and Storage facility as well as the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan’s Lanigan potash mine site. They will also attend the opening of the Saskatchewan Legislature ceremony and annual Speech from the Throne on October 25.
“Trade, technology and education are critical to the province’s economic future, and we need to tell our story to the world,” Wall said. “We look to deepen these relationships with the countries involved for our mutual benefit.”
