Premier Brad Wall was onsite today as construction of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital reached 70 per cent completion. The building is now at its final shape with all levels of the hospital, including the helipad, structurally complete. The project remains on time and on budget.“In 2009, our government promised to build a hospital where Saskatchewan children could receive exceptional care closer to home,” Wall said. “Today, it is gratifying to see that the world-class health care facility envisioned by planners is nearing completion. The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital will be a place of hope and healing for children and their families and a centre of research and learning for health care professionals. Our thanks should go to the Children’s Hospital Foundation for its tireless fundraising, the generous donors who contributed millions of dollars to the hospital, and to the young people who have served as champions of the project. Saskatchewan is a stronger place because of their efforts.”
The Government of Saskatchewan is contributing $235.5 million toward the total project cost of $285.2 million, and $21.4 million will come from interest in investments. In addition, the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation is contributing $75 million through its fundraising campaign.
“While the tangibility of the children's hospital is exciting, it is what will be housed within it that will truly have impact,” Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation President and CEO Brynn Boback-Lane said. “This will be a world-class environment for our medical professionals, a family-friendly hospital for our youngest patients, and a tribute to supporters and donors for providing a special space for children, moms-to-be and families from every corner of Saskatchewan. We are grateful to the Government of Saskatchewan and everyone who has made Jim Pattison Children's Hospital a reality.”
Over the summer, construction crews made significant progress on the interior of the building. That work will continue in the coming months as interior finishes are completed through the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Surgery areas, as well as in the Adult and Children’s Emergency Departments. Another significant milestone will be achieved later this fall when the exterior building envelop becomes fully watertight.
Once completed, the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital will better meet the needs of our province’s children and expecting mothers and families by enhancing child-patient care, and enabling the recruitment and retention of pediatric specialists.
The hospital is scheduled to open in late 2019.
