Martensville-Warman MLA Nancy Heppner today, on behalf of Acting Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer, joined community members, dignitaries, future residents and their loved ones to celebrate the grand opening of a new group home in Warman.The group home, operated by Christian Horizons, supports the inclusion of four former Valley View Centre residents into the community.
“I am happy to join in this celebration that welcomes four new people into the Warman community,” Heppner said. “I know that the new residents of this home will be very happy as they build relationships in the community and enrich the lives of Warman residents.”
Christian Horizons is a community-based organization that has been delivering supports and services for people experiencing intellectual disabilities since 1974. It provides group living supports for 79 people, day programming for 80 people, and person-centred enhanced supports for six people. Christian Horizons received more than $8 million from the Government of Saskatchewan in 2017-18, including more than $500,000 for the Warman group home.
“Christian Horizons and the Government of Saskatchewan have a mutual goal of making our province a better place for people experiencing disabilities,” Christian Horizons Executive Director of Saskatchewan Services Ann Gyurmanczi said. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work together to improve the supports available to people with exceptional needs in Warman.”
“Our government is grateful for the hard work and dedication of Christian Horizons,” Heppner said. “By providing high quality supports and services for people experiencing disabilities, they are improving the lives of those they serve while also supporting the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy.”
The Saskatchewan Disability Strategy was released by the Citizen Consultation Team in June 2015. The government accepted the strategy and is focused on the foundational work of six priority areas including: transportation, respite, accessibility legislation, residential services, service co-ordination and navigation, and awareness/understanding of the rights of people experiencing disabilities.
