An investment of more than $190,000 has been committed to upgrading electrical service in 50 campsites at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park’s Hilltop campground.Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Ken Cheveldayoff will be at an event at Greenwater Lake tomorrow, August 12, to officially announce this project. He will celebrate with the public and park staff the government’s ongoing commitment to investing in provincial parks.
“With nearly four million visits in 2016, our provincial parks are hubs of activity and a sought-after destination for tourists and residents alike,” Cheveldayoff said. “Projects like this help to ensure that we are continuing to meet the needs of our users and provide them with the best possible experience.”
The contract for this work was awarded to Livewire Electric Ltd. out of Shellbrook. Work is scheduled to begin this fall, and is expected to be substantially complete before the 2018 summer season.
Though summer is winding down, camping season is not. Many provincial parks, including Greenwater Lake, offer camping well into September. Camping after the Labour Day long weekend is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, though some parks do offer reservations into the fall.
