Government of Saskatchewan Celebrates International Education Week

The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to celebrate International Education Week from November 14-18, 2016.  International Education Week is celebrated in more than 100 countries and is dedicated to strengthening the understanding of international education.

“This week celebrates the importance of international education to institutions, students and our country,” Advanced Education Minister Bronwyn Eyre said.  “International education connects Saskatchewan and Canada to other parts of the world and gives students the opportunity to develop new skills and learn new languages, culture and traditions.”

The Saskatchewan Post-Secondary International Education Strategy has three goals.

These include:
  • increasing the number of international students in Saskatchewan;
  • increasing the number of Saskatchewan students studying abroad; and
  • increasing the number and value of international research partnerships.
In addition to meeting these goals, the government is developing a number of strategic initiatives to support the International Education Strategy.  These include: a familiarization tour of Saskatchewan for overseas education agents, a quality assurance framework for out of country programs delivered by Saskatchewan institutions and engagement strategies for each of Saskatchewan’s priority international education markets.

There are more than 6,800 international students studying in Saskatchewan from 133 countries.  There are 26 post-secondary institutions currently designated to host international students.

The top three countries for those students are China, India and Nigeria.  There are also more than 1,000 Saskatchewan post-secondary students studying abroad.
