Premier Brad Wall today expressed condolences to the family and friends of former Official Opposition Leader Dick Collver. Collver died on August 7 in Thailand where he was living. He was 78.“Dick Collver was a strong conservative voice who led the PC Party from zero seats when he became Leader to Official Opposition status in the Legislature,” Wall said. “Although he had not lived in Saskatchewan for many years, he certainly made a huge impact on Saskatchewan politics in the 1970s.”
Collver took over the leadership of the PC Party in 1973. In the 1975 election, the PC Party won seven seats, which included Collver’s election as MLA for Nipawin. Collver’s party won 17 seats and Official Opposition status in the 1978 election but he stepped down as leader shortly after the election.
