Practitioner Staff Appeals Tribunal

Mandate

The Practitioner Staff Appeals Tribunal is established under Section 6-4(1) of The Provincial Health Authority Act to hear appeals filed by practitioners regarding a decision of the provincial health authority or an affiliate made in relation to:

  1. the appointment of the person to the practitioner staff or the reappointment, suspension or termination of appointment of the person;
  2. the disciplining of the person as a member of the practitioner staff; or
  3. the granting of privileges to the person as a member of the practitioner staff, or the amending, suspending or revoking of privileges granted to the person.

The Practitioner Staff Appeals Tribunal may:

  1. confirm the decision of the board;
  2. vary the decision of the board; or
  3. quash the decision of the board and substitute its own decision for that of the board.

Composition of the Tribunal

The Practitioner Staff Appeals Tribunal consists of the following members appointed by the Minister of Health:

  1. one member appointed from among three persons nominated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of the Province of Saskatchewan;
  2. one member appointed from among three persons nominated by the Saskatchewan Medical Association;
  3. one member appointed from among three persons nominated by the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan;
  4. one member appointed from among three persons nominated by The Chiropractors' Association of Saskatchewan;
  5. one member appointed from among three persons nominated by the Saskatchewan Association of Health Care Organizations; and
  6. two members appointed from among six persons who are authorized pursuant to The Legal Profession Act, 1990 to practice law in Saskatchewan and who are nominated by the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
