Saskatchewan is home to more than 40 per cent of Canada's cultivated farmland with 18.6 million hectares (45.9 million acres). Saskatchewan is Canada's primary growing region for grains, oilseeds and pulses. We also have more than six million hectares of pasture and land dedicated to permanent cover for forage crops.
Saskatchewan is a leading supplier of agricultural products for some of the world's fastest growing countries. With a growing global population demanding high-quality agri-food products, we are an increasingly important food supplier.
Production
On average, over the last 10 years, Saskatchewan has produced over 34 million metric tonnes (MMT) of field crops. In 2023, Saskatchewan farmers produced 31.8 MMT of cereal grains, oilseeds and pulses. This resulted in $20.2 billion worth of agricultural exports in 2023.

Saskatchewan's reputation for safe, high-quality agri-food products is built on a stringent, science-based federal regulatory system. We ensure our safety and quality standards are met through agencies such as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC).
Innovation
Saskatchewan's agriculture industry is a leader in adopting new practices that facilitate environmental sustainability, such as minimum tillage practices which conserve moisture, top-soil and fuel. Our agriculture industry is reducing greenhouse gas emission intensity through continued investments in research and adoption of new technology and practices.
Location
Saskatchewan is centrally located to world logistics systems that allow local products to be exported worldwide. Canada ships approximately 70 million metric tonnes of agricultural products annually and is committed to improving the effectiveness of our transportation system to meet the growing demands of our international clients.
