The Urban Highway Connector Program promotes safe and efficient movement of people and goods through Saskatchewan cities. It also provides an open and consistent framework to support the municipal management of urban highway connectors.
Saskatchewan’s 16 cities control Urban Highway Connectors within their boundaries under provincial legislation and jurisdiction. These connectors are roadways, connecting highways through the cities.
The connectors are an important part of both the national and provincial transportation system as delays can cause bottlenecks and are costly to shipping companies.
Cities receive annual grants for the operation and maintenance of urban highway connectors. They receive funding for rehabilitation and upgrade projects on urban highway connectors based on project applications and available program funding.
