Proposed New Oil and Gas Liability Management Regulations

The Energy Regulation Division of the Ministry of Energy and Resources is consulting with stakeholders on proposed regulatory enhancements intended to strengthen Saskatchewan’s oil and gas liability management framework. The proposed regulatory enhancements aim to reduce the prospect of new orphan oil and gas wells and facilities in the province and include:

  • A new set of regulations called The Financial Security and Site Closure Regulations; and
  • An amendment to The Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations, 2012.
Further details on the proposed regulatory enhancements may be found at Notice of Proposed New Regulations. Please submit feedback on the proposed regulatory enhancements to the ER Service Desk at er.servicedesk@gov.sk.ca by March 31, 2021.
