Poverty is more than not having enough money. It holds people back from realizing their full potential and participating as citizens in the social and economic life of our province.
Saskatchewan has made great progress in reducing poverty in recent years. In order to do even better into the future, we will need to pull together. That’s why, last fall, Government announced the development of the Poverty Reduction Strategy. Reducing poverty further will need a focused effort and strong commitment from all of us.
This means citizens, communities, governments, the non-profit and business sectors need to work together to help inform the recommendations for the strategy. We want to make sure there are opportunities for everyone to shape the approach for the strategy – by sharing concerns, experiences and perspectives with the Advisory Group on Poverty Reduction.

Saskatchewan's Approach to Reducing Poverty
The development of Saskatchewan's Poverty Reduction Strategy involves two key steps:
- First, the Advisory Group on Poverty Reduction will gather input and perspectives from the community to identify strengths within current programs and services, and areas for improvement or more action. From there, they will be making recommendations to Government which will inform the development of a Poverty Reduction Strategy.
The Advisory Group's recommendations will include suggestions on the approach to be used in the development of the Poverty Reduction Strategy in addition to specific targets and measures. - Following submission of the Advisory Group recommendations, Government will proceed with developing the Strategy.
