Royal Saskatchewan Museum Unveils New Sasktel Be Kind Online Learning Lab

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the new SaskTel Be Kind Online Learning Lab. This new lab space will allow the museum to host a variety of school and public programming, including adult workshops.

"The Royal Saskatchewan Museum continues to offer new, world-class experiences to its visitors, and we are excited to have SaskTel as a partner in this venture," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. "The new SaskTel Be Kind Online Learning Lab will allow the RSM to provide new and expanded educational programming - incorporating technology in a way that we were previously unable to offer to visiting classrooms."

The RSM will be able to use the space for a variety of workshops and demonstrations to showcase the RSM's exhibits, research and collections.

"SaskTel is proud of its long-standing relationship with the Royal Saskatchewan Museum," Minister Responsible for SaskTel Don Morgan said. "Incorporating the 'Be Kind Online' message into the Learning Lab as a reminder to rethink online behaviour, embrace connectedness, and spread positivity has never been more important. As an organization committed to diversity, inclusion, and acceptance, SaskTel strives to help change online behaviour for the better."

The new space can accommodate up to 30 individuals and has a large screen that can be connected to microscopes, cameras and a variety of other digital media. The RSM hopes to use the space for adult workshops in insect or bird identification or with researchers and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers. 

"Visitors can get a peek at the new space at an open house on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17," Royal Saskatchewan Museum Executive Director Peter Menzies said. "School visits are to resume this month. In a normal year, more than 15,000 students would visit the museum and the SaskTel Be Kind Online Learning Lab will be the centerpiece of that programming."
