Investing in modern transportation infrastructure is critical to connecting communities, helping businesses move their goods to customer markets, and building a strong economy for all Canadians.Bernadette Jordan, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Crown Investments Minister and Prince Albert Carlton MLA Joe Hargrave on behalf of Highways and Infrastructure Minister Lori Carr, today announced funding for major highway improvements in Saskatchewan.
Approximately 259 kilometres of highway will be improved through this project, which includes work along fifteen different stretches of highways 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 33 and 39. Once complete, these vital upgrades will help keep Saskatchewan drivers safe, improve traffic flow and boost trade to support our economy.
The Government of Canada is providing $40.2 million through the New Building Canada Fund and the Government of Saskatchewan is contributing $41.5 million.
“With investments like these, our government is creating safer, and more fluid travel for people who travel on Saskatchewan’s highway network,” said Jordan. “This work will help local businesses compete, promote a higher quality of life for residents and support the long-term economic prosperity of this province.”
“Since 2008, our government has made highways and transportation infrastructure a priority through record investments and safety improvements,” Hargrave said. “As a province that is land-locked, we continue to invest to support our economic competitiveness and to improve the quality of life and safety for our people.”

- Through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities.
- More than $10.1 billion of this funding is supporting trade and transportation projects, including $5 billion available for investment through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
