SIX SCHOOLS UPGRADED

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing approximately $1.6 million to improve schools in Debden, Nipawin, Naicam, Prince Albert and Arborfield.

"When we invest in capital projects for education, we are investing in our students and in the future of Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said. "These projects show our continued commitment to improving Saskatchewan schools."

The capital projects include:

• The Parkland School Division will receive approximately $511,000 for renovations and a heating/ventilation/air-conditioning upgrade to Debden School;

• The Nipawin School Division will receive $400,000 for Carrot River High School as well as approximately $64,000 to upgrade the boiler at Wagner School in Nipawin;

• The Melfort Tiger Lily School Division will receive approximately $376,000 to expand the gymnasium at Naicam School;

• The Prince Albert Roman Catholic School Division will receive approximately $205,000 for renovations to Saint Mary High School in Prince Albert; and

• The Tisdale School Division will receive approximately $48,000 to improve accessibility at Arborfield School.

These projects will be cost-shared with the school divisions listed above.

"Students and teachers need modern, well-equipped learning facilities in order to succeed," Saskatchewan Rivers MLA Lon Borgerson said. "These projects will greatly support the learning needs of young people in each of these communities."

These projects are part of the provincial government's investment of $6.2 million to improve 32 Saskatchewan schools. With these projects, the total commitment by government to K-12 capital projects this fiscal year is $26.6 million.

"These school improvement projects are part of the government's commitment to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Thomson added.
