THE STAGE IS SET FOR SASKATCHEWAN CENTENNIAL 2005 THEATRE TOUR

Released on May 26, 2005

Saskatchewan's great outdoors will become the setting for an innovative new production that will premiere in the province during the centennial year. Led by a cast of established Saskatchewan actors and exciting young performers, the Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 play "All My Relations – Wahkotowin" will tour to dozens of Saskatchewan communities, from Abbey to Waskesui Lake. Most performances will be outdoors against the backdrop of the natural environment.

"All My Relations – Wahkotowin" will premiere in Bruno on June 29th, 2005 then travel to about 50 more communities throughout the province, including the north, between July and September. The final performance will be held in Dancing Sky Theatre's hometown of Meacham on September 4th, 2005, when the province officially celebrates its 100th birthday.

"The centennial play is a celebration of our people, our cultures and our pride in place," Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Chair and Moose Jaw North MLA Glenn Hagel said. "Communities throughout the province are welcoming the opportunity to bring live theatre to their hometown and to commemorate the centennial year with an original work of art that is a tribute to the people and the province of Saskatchewan."

The Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Theatre tour is being produced by Dancing Sky Theatre in Meacham. The script is a collective creation involving the theatre's Artistic Director Angus Ferguson and renowned Saskatchewan writers Maria Campbell and Trevor Herriot, as well as the cast. The cast includes six Saskatchewan actors and one musician. The nine members of the staging, technical and administrative crew will be supported by volunteers in each community where the play is performed.

"This is a production that will speak to all audiences regardless of age, cultural background or which part of this immense province they call home," Ferguson said. "As the title suggests, in both Cree and English, the performance explores our relationship with our rich and diverse cultural heritage and our relationship to the land. It is a piece that will explore how our many connections to our environment and to one another have changed over the years and how they will continue to evolve into the future."
