BUSINESS TAX REVIEW COMMITTEE WANTS TO HEAR FROM SWIFT CURRENT

Released on May 19, 2005

The Saskatchewan Business Tax Review Committee wants to know what changes would make Swift Current an even better place to do business. The Committee will be at the Days Inn Hotel in Swift Current on Thursday, May 26th and is eager to hear from local business owners, interested individuals and groups.

"We are interested in hearing what people in and around Swift Current are thinking about business taxes," Committee Chair Jack Vicq said. "We are here to listen to ideas, discuss opinions, and provide final recommendations to the government that will support business, encourage economic growth and create jobs."

The Committee is reviewing provincial business taxes, including tax rates and tax expenditures. Local taxes and resource royalties are not included in the Committee's mandate.

Groups and individuals are encouraged to participate. Anyone interested in making a presentation to the Committee can register by Tuesday, May 24th. The Committee website (www.gov.sk.ca/btrc) is the best place to register and get further information, including submissions and presentations to date. There is also time available at the end of each meeting for unscheduled presenters to share their views.

Public consultations have already been held in Yorkton and Estevan. Meetings are also scheduled for Prince Albert, North Battleford, Regina and Saskatoon.

"It is the experience and ideas of Saskatchewan business people that will help shape the direction of this review and our final recommendations," Vicq said. "We heard excellent presentations in both Yorkton and Estevan and the Committee and I are looking forward to the Swift Current meeting."
