The renovations and construction at Warman High School were celebrated with a ceremony today."Modern, well-equipped learning facilities are crucial for Saskatchewan students and teachers," Justice Minister and Saskatoon Meewasin MLA, Frank Quennell said on behalf of Learning Minister Andrew Thomson. "The government's contribution to this project demonstrates our commitment to all Saskatchewan students and will help the youth of Warman and area in reaching their potential."
Saskatchewan Learning will contribute approximately $8.1 million to the school project and $500,000 for Prairie West Regional College to move some of its programming into the high school. This project will be cost-shared with the Saskatchewan Valley School Division. The town of Warman is also partnering with the school division in funding additional gymnasium space in the school.
This project includes the demolition of the old classroom wing of the school, renovations and upgrades to the remaining space and the construction of a new double gym, industrial arts labs, student common area and administration space. The renovations to the existing gym will provide training space for Prairie West Regional College. Additional classroom space is being constructed to enable the Grade 6 students at Warman Elementary School to move into the high school, thereby accommodating the growing enrolments at Warman Elementary School. The project is expected to be complete by September 2006.
"Saskatchewan Valley School Division has appreciated the support received from our partners, Saskatchewan Learning, the Town of Warman, and Prairie West Regional College," Saskatchewan Valley School Division Board Chairperson Harold Klassen said. "We are very proud of the co-operative approach demonstrated by all those involved and we believe our students, communities and division will benefit greatly through this collaboration. We are very proud of this school as a facility that will serve a multitude of purposes and be utilized in a variety of ways in our division and communities."
"This joint facility will expand the already strong partnership between Prairie West Regional College and the Saskatchewan Valley School Division," Prairie West Regional College CEO Bruce Probert said. "The college looks forward to increasing the partnership by sharing and expanding its capacity in career and student services, basic education and technical programs, and increased access to programs and services with technology enhanced learning."
