MAJOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED ON HIGHWAY 4 NEAR COCHIN

Released on May 9, 2005

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation and the Resort Village of Cochin have entered into a partnership to deliver an important safety improvement project.

The project involves the construction of turning lanes on Highway 4 through Cochin at the Hunt's Cove Access. In addition, the Hunt's Cove Access will be realigned by moving the access north, directly across from the east approach. Total cost of the project is $90,000.

"Safety of the provincial highway system is a priority for the province," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "This partnership with the Resort Village of Cochin will accelerate the delivery of this project."

"I would like to thank Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation for their cooperation in moving this project forward," Cochin Mayor Ernie Callow said. "The people of Cochin believe these improvements will significantly enhance safety at this intersection."

Under the partnership, the department will contribute $59,400 for construction of the turning lanes. The village will manage the project and contribute in-kind services. G & C Asphalt will complete the work, with construction expected to be completed this construction season.
