TEACHERS RATIFY COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

Chairperson of the Committee on Public Sector Compensation Joanne Crofford, on behalf of Learning Minister Andrew Thomson, today offered the government's congratulations to the members of the government/trustee and teacher bargaining committees on a positive ratification vote for the teacher collective agreement.

"I believe we have an agreement that meets the needs of students, teachers, school boards and all Saskatchewan taxpayers," Crofford said. "I am particularly pleased we were able to reach this agreement without any disruption to the school year."

The current collective agreement expired on August 31st, 2004. Negotiations for a new agreement began in April 2004. The tentative agreement was reached on April 15th, 2005. The ratification vote was held on May 3rd and 4th.
