As part of Saskatchewan Learning's Centennial Speakers Bureau, Olympic and World Champion hockey player Hayley Wickenheiser today shared her story with students at Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon.Hailing from Shaunavon, Wickenheiser has been referred to as the best female hockey player in the world. She is the first woman to register a point in a men's professional league.
"Ms. Wickenheiser's successes exemplify the excellence Saskatchewan people have achieved and will continue to achieve," Environment Minister David Forbes said on behalf of Learning Minister Andrew Thomson. "As someone who has demonstrated her talent on the world stage and pushed the traditional boundaries of sport, her story inspires people of all ages."
Developed as a unique learning resource that will bring alive the stories of Saskatchewan achievers and our province's history during the centennial year, Speakers Bureau services are available at no cost to Saskatchewan's schools, public libraries and public post-secondary institutions.
Information kits were distributed in mid-April to schools, public libraries and public post-secondary institutions. The speaker recruitment process is still underway and the list of available speakers will be updated weekly on Saskatchewan Learning's web site at www.sasked.gov.sk.ca.
