SUNRISE HEALTH REGION RECEIVES FUNDING FOR DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING EQUIPMENT

Released on March 22, 2005

Sunrise Health Region is receiving a quarter of a million dollars for diagnostic imaging equipment. The funding is part of the $66 million Saskatchewan received this fiscal year as a result of the 2004 First Ministers' Meeting.

"Diagnostic imaging services are a high priority for the government and the health system," Health Minister John Nilson said. "These purchases will help us to improve the availability and quality of diagnostic imaging services across Saskatchewan. They will also fit well with our developing provincial strategy to organize, streamline and improve these services."

"This funding allows Sunrise Health Region to further enhance diagnostic imaging services," Sunrise Health Region CEO Joe Kirwan said. "The funds assist Sunrise in meeting our commitment to provide more diagnostic tests within the region for the care and convenience of our community."

"These targeted investments by the Sunrise Regional Health Authority will provide benefit to all residents of the Health Region through enhanced access to timely diagnostic services." Deputy Premier and Yorkton MLA Clay Serby added.

Diagnostic imaging services include computerized tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds.

Sunrise Health Region significantly expanded its diagnostic services earlier this year, when it opened a new CT suite at Yorkton Regional Health Centre. The scanner can perform approximately 3,000 scans per year.
