PRINCE ALBERT PARKLAND HEALTH REGION RECEIVES FUNDING FOR DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING EQUIPMENT

Prince Albert Parkland Health Region is receiving $1.05 million dollars for diagnostic imaging equipment. The funding is part of the $66 million Saskatchewan received this fiscal year as a result of the 2004 First Ministers' Meeting.

"Diagnostic imaging services are a high priority for the government and the health system," Health Minister John Nilson said. "These purchases will help us to improve the availability and quality of diagnostic imaging services across Saskatchewan. They will also fit well with our developing provincial strategy to organize, streamline and improve these services."

The region plans to use the money to purchase a new ultrasound machine and upgrade its computerized tomography (CT) scanner.

"The Health Region welcomes the investment to replace aging equipment and improve the technology that assists people in need," Prince Albert Parkland Regional Health Authority Chairperson Ray Ewanchuk said. "Replacing the CT scanner and new ultrasound equipment will enable the Region to improve access and reduce wait times for these important diagnostic tools."

"These prudent investments on the part of the Prince Albert Parkland Regional Health Authority will benefit all residents of the health region." Saskatchewan Rivers MLA Lon Borgerson added.

Prince Albert Parkland Health Region will receive additional funding to increase the number of CT scans it is able to provide, so that wait times can be shortened. Diagnostic imaging services include computerized tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds.
